An ELTIF (European Long-Term Investment Fund) is a relatively new type of investment fund that channels capital into long-term real economy investments in the private market, which can potentially offer higher returns but are also associated with higher risks and longer investment horizons. ELTIFs were introduced by the European Union in 2015 (ELTIF 1.0) and largely reformed in 2024 (ELTIF 2.0).

ELTIF 2.0 now allows easier access to alternative asset classes such as Private Equity, making them particularly attractive. Key innovations for investors include a reduced minimum investment, improved liquidity options, and simplified subscription processes. ELTIFs are now available in various asset classes, including Private Equity, Private Debt, Infrastructure, and Private Real Estate.
